SPECIAL THANKS: Volunteer Gives 20,000 Hours

Since 1987, volunteer Claire Hinrichs has been donating her time and talent to numerous non-profit organizations. Retired from John Deere as a data processor in 1986, Claire took up her volunteer calling the very next year when husband Don asked her to help with the record keeping for his retiree volunteer program at General Mills, a role that she continues to this day. One-Time Events:

Drive and Exercise
Mondays in January, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Want to get your exercise while you volunteer? Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly is looking for drivers to assist with transportation to and from a Gentle Yoga class in St. Paul. Volunteer drivers are encouraged to stay and participate in the class at no charge.
Ongoing Opportunities:

Feed Your Interest in Other Cultures
Interact with people from many cultures while helping them shop for culturally appropriate foods by volunteering at Neighborhood House’s food shelf.
When: Volunteer three hours, 9-12 or 1-4, Monday through Thursday
Where: Neighborhood House Food Shelf, 179 Robie Street East, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55107
Lend Your Support
Lend your support to caregivers. Volunteers are needed to provide relief to family caregivers in the homes of frail or ill elderly loved ones. Volunteers provide safe companionship and socializing for the care recipient while the caregiver is away. Training provided. Weekly time commitment is 2 – 3 hours.

THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW

A DASH IN THE SNOW! THE SEVENTH ANNUAL TWIN CITIES SNOWSHOE SHUFFLE, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2012.
This will be the seventh year celebrating Minnesota’s great outdoors, age-old snowshoe tradition and gathering for an excellent cause. The 2012 Seventh Annual Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle, “A Dash in the Snow,” will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 on the beautiful natural trails of Long Lake Regional Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the race beginning at 10 a.m. The snowshoe race is a 5K/10K run/walk and Regional Qualifier for the United States National Snowshoe Association National Championship.

All ages and abilities are welcome to Dash in the Snow! In addition to seasoned racers, the Twin Cities Snowshoe Shuffle participants include recreational snowshoers, Nordic skiers, road runners, trail runners and families.

All proceeds from the race and accompanying silent auction will benefit Camp Bovey, East Side Neighborhood Services’ Summer Youth Camp, located in Gordon, Wisconsin. Camp Bovey provides outdoor living and leadership development for children ages eight to 14.For more details, visit http://www.snowshoeshuffle.org/ or call 612-781-6011.

Time and Mileage Reimbursement Forms Due!
As December comes to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you that your time and mileage reimbursement forms are now due for the months of October, November, and December. Please make sure that you have your forms in to your volunteer supervisor (or directly in to us at RSVP with the supervisor’s signature) by our January 16th deadline. If you have questions, please call us at 952-945-4165.

By now you should have received the 2011 RSVP Member Survey, either by email or postal mail. If you haven’t already done so, please complete the survey and send it to us no later than Friday, January 6, 2011. Two lucky recipients will each receive a $25 gas card for completing the survey.
